AFA SCL History
After the heroic deed called “Grito de Alcorta”, in August of 1912, Federación Agraria Argentina was born. This union entity, in its exemplary fight for the authentic farmer’s recognition, has seen its sections (currently called subsidiaries) multiplied in many localities and colonies of the country that, as well as deploying its union activity, it provided some services such as cereal grain distribution, bags and others consumables in the identical way of a cooperative work.
In the beginning of the 1930 decade, Federación Agraria Argentina suffered the effects of an extremely negative context. In one hand, a serious political crisis as a product of the democratic order infringements, and the social and economic repercussions derived from the first financial crisis in the year 1929; in the other hand, in the strictly institutional context, the antagonism of sectors with opposed interests.
In view of such situation, on November 3rd of 1932, with the goal of keeping the services provision in the cooperative aspect, twenty-eight farmers coming from twenty-six sections placed in three provinces (Santa Fe, Buenos Aires y Córdoba) under the initiative of Federación Agraria Argentina, they founded Agricultores Federados Argentinos.
It is remarkable the vision of founders and pioneers with regards the conception of the Cooperative as a farm extension and as an instrument to dignify the farmer family.
Administrative consolidation
Since the foundation until 1950, A.F.A’s administrative structure was quite different from the current one, and its area of influence covered a big part of provinces of Santa Fe, Córdoba and Buenos Aires, as well as an important portion of province of Entre Ríos.
Since 1950, another institutional consolidation stage begins with the creation of Primaries Cooperatives Centers, with Sub-Councils (currently called Local Advisory Councils) and permanent personnel, giving A.F.A the beginning of its current configuration.
The release of Economic Structural Regulation turned out fundamental at A.F.A’s internal level, during the second half of the 1950 decade. This regulation sets the foundations of solidarity in the practice among the different Primary Cooperatives Centers: when any of them is in troubles (due to economics, financials, institutional reasons, etc) the others Centers, solidarily, provide concrete help to find the solution. In the financial level, those who receives help, when they are restored, they give back the lent help. Really: One for All and All for One.
First Exportation: A great achievement
One remarkable milestone for the Cooperative it was the first cereal grains exportation in 1960. It’s stated in the Memory of the 1958-59 accounting exercise: “ …the management to organize the operations of cereal grain exportation is on track. With the purpose of a previous rehearsal, many of them have been performed with satisfactory results…”
During the following accounting exercise (1959-60), the management in order to organize the Exportation Section was continued. After the necessary research, the corresponding offices were installed in the place that the Cooperative acquired specifically for that purpose at Lavalle 652, 9th floor, Buenos Aires.
